We're in the heart of downtown Raleigh, the room is intimate without being stuffy, and the food and drink programs are both designed to invite sharing. Here's how to use the space well. The Room The dining room at Element has the warmth most downtown restaurants miss. Low, warm lighting. Booth and four-top seating. Music at conversation volume — never the bar-club volume that forces you to lean across the table just to hear each other. There are loud restaurants in downtown Raleigh, and there's a place for those, but date night isn't one of them. Element is what you book when you actually want to talk. If you want something even more private, we have a couple of corner booths and a back wall that gives you real separation from the rest of the room. Just mention "quieter table" when you book and we'll do our best. How to Order for Two The menu is designed for sharing, but you don't have to share if you don't want to. The setup we recommend for a great two-person meal: One starter to share. Wings (six sauces — go with two halves), Voodoo Chili Cheese Fries, or Pub Pretzels. Something casual to break the ice while you order drinks. Two Chef's Table dishes for the table. This is the heart of the menu. Currently the Black Garlic Steak Plate, Elemental Chik'n N Waffles, Chili Crisp Broccolini, and Spaghetti Alla Carbonara. They're all generous, all distinct, and they hit different cravings — pick two that pull from different categories. Or order entrées individually. The Smash Burger and the bigger entrées are also a great move, especially if you each want your own thing. We don't judge. Save room for one dessert to share. Two spoons, one plate. The desserts rotate seasonally — currently Strawberry Shawty Cake, Tropical Pineapple Cake, Apple Pie with oat ice cream, and Pop's Peanut Butter Cheesecake. The Drinks The bar program is one of the best parts of date night here. Our cocktails are built around fresh ingredients and balance, not gimmicks — the kind of drinks that hold up to a second round. A few moves that work well: Open with a lighter drink — a spritz, a citrus highball, or a glass of sparkling. Sets the pace without front-loading the night. Move to something spirit-forward with the entrée — a smoky mezcal sour, an old fashioned variant, or a glass of red. Close with a digestif or coffee. If you want to slow the night down, an amaro or a coffee cocktail does the trick. If one of you isn't drinking, our zero-proof menu is one of the deepest in Raleigh. Why It Plays Well as a Plant-Based Date One thing worth being upfront about: every dish at Element is plant-based. If your date isn't vegan and you're worried that's going to be a thing, here's the honest read — it almost never is. The food is built to be good first, not virtuous first. People order the Smash Burger and the Chik'n & Waffles and the steak plate and don't think about what isn't on them. Come hungry; the rest takes care of itself. Building the Full Night Around It One of the underrated reasons to do date night downtown is that you can chain a real evening together. A few combinations that work: Pre-show: 6 PM dinner at Element, then walk to a show at Red Hat Amphitheater , The Ritz , or Lincoln Theatre . We're a 5–10 minute walk from all three. Museum night: NC Museum of Natural Sciences (free, often open late on Thursdays) is two blocks away. Easy combo with dinner. Full evening: Cocktails at our bar, dinner in the dining room, dessert and a digestif back at the bar afterward. We can pace the whole thing. Late move: Dinner here, then walk to one of the cocktail bars on Fayetteville for a nightcap. We close at 9 PM Mon–Thu and Sun, 10 PM Fri–Sat — plenty of time for a second stop.
